Just found out about this last night:
https://askleo.com/turn-off-windows-10s ... downloads/
Apparently Win 10 can use your band width to update other people's PCs! So not ideal if you are trying to have a game of UT online.
If you are using Win 10, it might be an idea to check to see if you have this option turned on...

I'm still on win7 and don't know anything about this, but isn't having that enabled a huge security risk?

Not only that, but if you are on a limited GB data per month contract, you might go over your limit without realising it and it could cost you money...

In your wifi settings (advanced options), you can let Windows know you're on a metered connection. That will prevent it from automatically downloading and installing Windows updates behind your back (which is not fun while you're gaming).Xac wrote:Not only that, but if you are on a limited GB data per month contract, you might go over your limit without realising it and it could cost you money...
I went through all the settings I could find when I set Win10 up and I'm really glad I did.

Yep Windows 10 is quite the scumbag. Turning everybody's PC into their personal server, unless turned off.
I also think Wi-Fi Sense is extremely rude. Windows 10 automatically shares Wi-Fi access (not the password itself) with all your Outlook, Skype and Facebook contacts. Meaning that anybody I have in those lists can use the Wi-Fi networks that I have, at some point, connected to. So if I have e-mailed my neighbor or have him on Facebook, he can then drain my Wi-Fi bandwith. Just google it if you want to turn it off btw.

Re: Running UT2004 on Windows 10
Makes you wonder, how can you be sure if you are downloading an update from some random PC on the web that it hasn't been infected with a virus and what you are downloading is also infected? Lots of bots out there!Wormbo wrote:Fixed.Steinein wrote:Yep Windows 10 is quite the scumbag. Turning everybody's PC into Microsoft's personal server, unless turned off.

Has anyone had any luck getting the editor going properly under 10? Any help is appreciated.

I don't have win10 so i don't know if this will work, but you could try changing the all the Device=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice lines in unrealed.ini to Device=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
---edit---
There's also a line in UT2004.ini you might want to try changing.
[Editor.EditorEngine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
to
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
