starting several weeks ago, GMail blocked any mails originating from our board:
Our system has detected an unusual rate of unsolicited mail originating from your IP address. To protect our users from spam, mail sent from your IP address has been blocked. Please visit http://www.google.com/mail/help/bulk_mail.html to review our Bulk Email Senders Guidelines
Means, email notifications of PMs or forum updates won't find their way to GMail users anymore.
bump!
Same thing happened now for quite a while. Got no idea why gmail tends to be so restrictive, they seem to be the only provider blocking our mails though. Anyway, if you want to receive mail notifications like for topic replys, PMs or password changes, I recommend using another mail provider. I'm not going to argue with Google

Edit: and I've booted out this Google-bot now
Uhm, I'm on yahoo and I still don't get those notifications anymore. Perhaps they are too many to handle? lol?
I doubt anybody ever was finding anything they've been looking for on our forum by googling. My impression was that the google-bot just slowed down the forum. And... who knows, those 5 years old access data might be abused in the meantime?
Doubt all you like, but google spider bots have been scraping us . As for abuse or other consequences, one can't really be sure of any practical drawbacks (perhaps the performance impact you mentioned?), but fact remains, the msg board has been indexed by big G for as long as those bots have been allowed here. Whether that has helped anyone find us, that's also questionable.
If it helps you any, I tried googling for this forum, but kept forgetting the name. But unless you really google "ceonss", you're not gonna find this place with things like "ut2004 server forum" or the like....
