I shit you not, this is totally legit, this is happening and, as an 80s kid, I'm 100% okay with it:
What the heck???
(Also, I think Peg is deliberately swearing more often now.... )
Well, funny vids has hit the 100 replies milestone for awhile now, but contrary to its older sibling (the music thread), it seems this one's been getting the runt of the litter treatment instead of festivities and well-wishings towards reaching the next 100. Kinda sad, but even after 10 days I don't see why we can't still make an effort to show the little fella some love on its first decimal achievement .
A few months back I only got as far as making a cursory mention of popular US web comedy troupe Rooster Teeth because the majority of their work, Halo-based machinima series Red vs Blue, while good fun, has been running for 11 years and is (self)reference-packed enough to be kinda impenetrable from any point other than its beginning. They have produced several other good shows to be sure (RT shorts, Slo-mo, Achievement Hunter and also anime RWBY last year) but RT is still a "more depth than breadth" type deal. Not so much the case with "opposing awe" LoadingReadyRun.
LoadingReadyRun is also a web comedy crew that's been doing their thing for over a decade now, but this Vancouver-based group can be expected to crank out all kinds of live action skits, gags, parody or variety bits for their shows instead of mostly sticking to one proven formula, although they too have their own established characters and running jokes/subshows. Over the years LRR has signed up with and produced several shows for various outlets, like Penny Arcade and The Escapist (as had Rooster Teeth for Machinima), so while not everything they've made may be on YT, it's all still freely available to watch. Results can always vary when it comes to comedy of course, but after doing this for so long, I find they've hit a point where most of what they try pans out even just because of the sheer polish and attention poured into it.
Anyway, here's some of their (IMO) best recent work to see what I'm talking about, some from YT and a couple from TheEsc.
Pro tip: look out for the stinger after the credits ;).
The rest are hosted on the Escapist, but they're just as good and highlight other kinds of (self) parody LRR is good at:
- Forward Facing (cH is an exaggerated take on LRR's daily life)
- Jonny 2
- The Whole Story: Fire Hydrants
Enjoy, and here's to the next 100 great funny vids .
So rumours have been milling about for months now about J.J. Abrams' insistence to focus the first movie of the next Star Wars trilogy mostly on sending off the original cast's trio (Luke, Han & Leia) 20-30 years down in their lives instead of better fleshing out the next generation of characters (that is, presumably, their kids). With Carrie Fisher's confirmation arriving today that the 3 oldbies will "begin work" on Episode VII this spring, a lot of people have begun worrying that this first step into something new might prove to be a slow n' boring slog as the geezers take a whole damn movie to get phased out (one will likely die in heroic sacrifice onscreen too) before the new kids can finally get the chance to take center stage and move the story to much needed new territories.
Not a SW fan myself, I must admit, but can't say I blame 'em either, not when considering the average work JJ has been turning in over at the Trekkie franchize these past few years. Perhaps things might've looked more promising if the original trilogy's story & chars was a bit more... exotic ?
PS: Trevor Noah's act was brilliant! Think he's even gotten some face time on CNN recently too (some ongoing series of specials on successful African personalities, I believe), so his stock is definitely on the rise. Hope to see him appear on a more regular gig soon.
Elect, it's so funny that you posted that video....because I discovered Trevor the same day, only that I was listening to his talk about tacos.
Peg....hilarious video. Completely over the top.
I really like Star Wars and yeah...I worry a bit about the new movies. Especially because I own a lot of those novels that will most likely be reduced to mere fan fiction soon.
Not a Harry Potter fan, but this is great. Especially the end!
