In my experience voice chat is rarely useful for coordinating team efforts (the exception being in L4D2 where it is paramount to victory). As Droopy said, there are no leaders, and people rarely have the desire to follow those who adopt such a position. Independent opinions on what to do and play-styles and all that.
That said, it's the quickest way to share information - where you're going, where enemies are going, etc - and always great for banter. Could be fun.

The problem on public servers is that players don't really know each other. Random players join the server (and potentially also the integrated voice chat), but they don't know anyone and nobody knows them. Not really a good basis for coordination.
Then again, a separate voice chat server encourages players to get to know each other a bit. Players who play and chat together regularly may develop strategies over time and improve their team play. And since it's public play, the banter will always be part of the fun.

I think a Skype group could be a good option. I've never used Teamspeak before but if it's anything like Ventrilo then we'll need somewhere for a server to be hosted or for someone to host it on their computer. On Skype anyone can host the call and if the host leaves someone else can simply begin a new one. I doubt textual communication is as convenient either.
Also I'd get to spam your home page (provided you add me) with my amazingly interesting mood message things.

After the Hannover reunion, I got hot thinking about a voice chat
The most well known programs out there for gaming are teamspeak, ventrilo e mumble
Looking online, mumble seems not that bad

We already have a Skype group set up which you could join, elect. It works as well as those programs and we don't need a server. Fire me or Eman your Skype username (it doesn't have to be your real one) and we'll add you. I'd quite like to hear your cries of "Incredible!" again.

If the enemy can hear what you're saying then it isn't a very useful tactical tool!
(unless you want to throw some "mis-information" their way )
So the minimum requirement would be separate "channels" for red and blue.

However I guess Skype is fine for few people, if the number would increase I am not sure it will be still "sustainable"
my 2 cents

We yelled instructions at our team mates during the party even though the others could also hear it and it was fine. If you have anything to share that you definitely don't want the other team to hear, you can still type it in the in-game team chat.
