On a second look I realize how much thought, -beyond the the well deserved laughs- went into your post.
Much appreciated.

Don't know if it's more fitting to say we're ready to discard 2021 like a spent tube o' toothpaste or if we were the ones that got squeezed instead, but its time is almost up either way. And, boy, we sure did have our hopes up for this one, huh?

Somehow, we convinced ourselves this was the year we'd seen enough to have learned the lesson, to be able to break the cycle and finally escape the misery of our predicament. The longer that escape eluded us, however, the more it seems we tried to dictate some kinda normalcy on our still abnormal world: we tried to restart our lives a few times as if nothing was amiss, kept imagining ever bolder future "reboots" in the meantime. Then we tried to reclaim some temporary pockets of normalcy in certain regions, hoping that might hold for awhile. As all of that was failing, some even thought they might find temporary refuge in virtual worlds or nostalgic cultural retreads. Several false starts later, nothing's worked; the same reality persists like a sequel nobody asked for to the world's worst franchise. In every way, in every sense, it seems we've been going around in circles, like a record player stuck replaying the same part of a crappy song over n' over. And, sure, every problem has a solution, but it's hard to find it when your own nature proves to be part of the problem.

Still, here we are, at the end of yet another loop, with strained nerves and even more frayed wits, trying to figure out what, if anything, these past 365 days might have taught us - besides the padding effect they've had on Peg's yearly junk image drawer, that is. Let's lay 'em out n' see what we might find...

If the apocalypse is coming, we should at least find ways to make it work for low budgets, too.

Actually, you know what, I think that's enough with all this meek nature-fearing, home-bound sulking, fate-cursing with only the internet to serve as a comfort blanket. We're human beings, damnit, and no miserable year (or two) is gonna dim our spirit or dull our optimism for a better world. Nobody can crush my dreams for a better tomorrow! Well, shit. Back to doomscrolling and the occasional UT2004 match, I guess...

Seriously though, it's been yet another hellish n' aggravating year for most, so I think we all deserve to at least take some comfort, or even pride, in still managing to keep apace of this plague and getting anything else of note done for ourselves or others around us during this messy time. With any luck, things will get better sooner than later and the next year won't just be 2020, too.

Happy New Year, CEONSS :).

So 2022 is officially done and over with, and, boy, was it ever one of those cases where people went into it thinking, "well, at least this mess can't get any worse, right?", only for reality to confidently ask us to hold its beer as it goes ahead and casually demonstrates how things could always be worse. What could be more awful than the trash fire combo of a pandemic and an economic crisis, it heard us naively asking, happy to deliver the answer: the same, but with a whole-ass war, energy insecurity, inflation, and about a dozen environmental catastrophes sprinkled all over it as the accompanying shitnado.
I suppose the obvious lesson here is to never tempt fate by assuming the worst is behind us - especially if we haven't done much (of anything) to reverse the causes of such fate and thus deserve better - but if there's also some small comfort to be found right now, it might as well be that the particular shitshow known as 2022 can no longer hurt us. We get but a moment's peace to make a mental note of that passing of the torch before history's merciless roller-coaster starts picking up downward speed again. Delightful.
Oh, and, of course, there's also the by-product of the concluding year leaving a bunch o' funny pics of animals being little furry weirdos, while humans act even stranger and, predictably, worse around 'em. I mean, that's... better than nothing, right? (Don't deny it. At this point, you knew exactly what you were walking into when you clicked on this thread!)

So let's review and possibly attempt to stitch together some kinda coherent narrative about the past 12 months from the pictures they left in Peg's junk drawer o' curiosities...

We always set off telling ourselves this time we're gonna seize the day and claim our rightful (value-adjusted) future.

If you were hoping for some grand revelation, some profound epiphany at the end of all this, I'm afraid I don't have much to offer you in that regard. If you hadn't noticed, we're not exactly living through humanity's second age of enlightenment these days. Only nugget I can offer is to try and be generous to others with your attempts to understand them, to not dismiss their perspective before first making an honest effort to find any potential sense & meaning in it. Oh, and keep holding on, too; after all, you've made it this far!

Happy New Year, CEONSS :).

Much like people's expectations of returning to some kinda normalcy this year, it seems 2023 also had plans to throw a spanner in the works of my own highly acclaimed tradition here, finally managing to knock it off track.
With Twitter changing hands last year, followed by them revising their policy on their content being accessible only to people signed in to the site this past June, that was enough of a blow to my ability to peruse posts there, and accidentally stumble across funny pictures too - even if I did learn of a workaround to get about half of that functionality back a bit later by way of a free third-party service (Nitter) - that my final funny pics haul for the year amounted to a measly 7 images. That barely justifies an end-of-year post, if you ask me, never mind making up a coherent narrative for additional amusement.

So with all the requisite whining explaining out of the way, here's the poor crop from the last twelve months in random order:

Not much of a harvest this time 'round, I'm afraid, but oh well. As the proverb goes, the only constant is change, so one might as well try to adapt as best they can and hope it gets 'em where they need to go. Who knows, maybe that's the key to getting through the next year, too. We'll find out soon enough either way. Happy 2024, folks!
