So after almost 8 years since their last studio album, Daft Punk are now about to release a new one next month entitled Random Access Memories. Instead of opting for their usual high-concept and laborious electronic composition approach through all sorts of tools and techniques, however, apparently this one's gonna be a lot more influenced by the 70s/80s era's aesthetic and groove. It's still gonna be sprinkled with DP's characteristic electronic frills of course, only a lot more reserved than usual, from what I understand (say, limited to period vocoders n' such). To that end, they've collaborated with several musicians from that time, like Nile Rodgers of Chic, Giorgio Moroder and others, and have even been releasing some mini interviews with them on YT about this work as part of the pre-launch period (and the album's CE bonus material, one might assume).
As more of an electronica aficionado myself, I'm not too sure whether this one's gonna play right in my wheelhouse as much as most of their previous work has, but still, this first single from RAM released last week does seem like a polished solid piece of music, so I'm willing to give 'em the benefit of the doubt; Daft Punk still are the patron saints of the genre after all.
