Like the recycle/reuse approach - and the steam punk feel of the end result
Reminds me a bit of this in a way...

I had recently to repair the Corsa C Z18xe from my girl.
The fuel pump was crap. Ok it was the first one (2001 and 220000 km) so it was ok. But why the heck this thing must broke after the tank was full. I first had to suck 40 l gasoline out of it.
While waiting for the new fuel pump I cleaned the ever dirty electronical throttle valve.
And after everything was fine I was thinking I could just exchange the damn fuel filter. Easy and fast doing and the first one, too. The fuel pipe was like glued to it. So I broke it. I need 4 houers to finde a new fuel pipe which was not around 50 bugs.. I get the original for 15. And thanks I didn't broke a screw bye lowering the tank.^^
It was really funny. I first told my girl that everything is working fine and then after she ask when she can have the car I told her that I broke the fuel pipe.

Thats got to be the dirty-est throttle body I have ever seen. I clean mine once a year with a rag and some acetone it helps with the idle for sure.
That's VW emissions for you!

Since we were talking about it today, I will post some pics of two paintings I made for my little brother.
Narra is an avid StarCraft II players and is ranked in the two highest leagues, the Master and Grand Master league. When he moved into his own apartment a few months ago, I painted the Master league logo for him. He liked it so much that he requested the Grand Master logo as well, so I painted the other one for Christmas and ordered two picture frames for his birthday.
I used gouache, which is a little-known medium. It's basically a cross between acrylics and watercolors. You can paint transparent with it or opaque. The interesting thing about Gouache is that it dries quickly, but it doesn't completely dry. As in, you can re-wet it and the dried paint will become liquid again. That makes it very easy to correct mistakes.
Here are some work in progress pictures and the final paintings.

Actually this is missing some reflections that I added later and some touch-up work, but this is the last picture I have (apart from the most recent pic which includes my little bro's face):

When not playing UT, there is of course the incessant need in between games of keeping the old Hellbender going (UT2004 might be 13 years old, but the trucks in it are 20+ years old). As tough as the old truck is, Hellbender radiators take a lot of punishment, being placed right at the front. If the cooling system fails, even this highly reliable three litre lump can destroy its cylinder head by over heating.
Here's an example of a damaged radiator repaired in the field:

This might be enough to get you going again, but in the end the radiator's got to be replaced or very soon it'll be bye bye cylinder head...
There is a drain tap at the bottom. Disconnect the top and bottom hose. The radiator is just held on with 4 bolts and comes out quite easily. While changing the rad, it's a good idea to change the fan belts and top and bottom hose and their securing clips. Make sure the alloy tubing is clean, free of corrosion and smeared with some grease before putting the new hoses back on.

Here she is, all back together again. Don’t forget to use a decent mix of red antifreeze. Give the old truck a run, then let her cool down and check the fluid level again…then it’s back to the front line and more Hellbender mayhem!
