Been like a year since my major PC upgrade, but figured I should post here (I actually often end up checking here what my current rig is).
Since my last post, pretty much all parts have changed. When Corona began, I made some changes to make my home office and gaming space more ergonomic/back friendly, which also involed some desk/chair/mouse changes. I also completed a major overhaul of my hardware in early 2022. Even my peripherals have changed since the last post. I want to mention that some stuff simply broke (like my headset's mic...during an online meeting). And some stuff went wrong during the hardware upgrade process.
In early 2022, I wanted to upgrade my graphics card, but prices were rather high back then, and I realized it would move the "bottleneck" to my CPU. Upgrading my CPU would require a new motherboard and most likely also trading my DDR3 RAM for some DDR4 RAM. I was also running out of disc space. Faced with replacing so many parts, I started to look around for a prebuild PC that I could take apart and combine with a few parts that I wanted to keep.
I ended up getting the HP OMEN on sale.
Now this case is actually a mini size and only has one fan (apart from the CPU fan), which is why I didn't want to keep it.
I transferred most parts into my old case. During this process, the motherboard that came with the prebuild PC unfortunately broke, so I ordered a new one online. I couldn't use my previous mobo because I switched from Intel to AMD. Then I discovered that my CPU cooler didn't fit (and neither did the CPU cooler that came with the prebuild PC's motherboard) and also had to order a new one. And after that, I first had to update the BIOS in order for the motherboard to work with the CPU... And later I had to reinstall Windows from scratch as well. (Tried copying it onto the new boot SSD, but it ran super slow.)
All in all, I ended up without a PC for 5 days, which might be a new record for things going wrong during a PC hardware upgrade.
My latest addition was a large HDD in Fall 2022.
