Time to leave UT

Hi all,

Well I think the time has come for me to quit UT, I've had a month away training hard for my new job, I had hoped to come back to a server that had maybe changed a little but unfortunately things appear to be the same.

Firstly I do not mean the server, I could never blame Labor for any problems, he's been the best server admin I've seen across all games & severs etc and has always been a pleasure to deal with (although I doubt he'd say the same of dealing with me lol)

I meant the style of gameplay, majority of players now seem far too happy to camp and spawnkill, vote maps that require little or no skill (tankmeup crap etc) and not bother with actual ONS play at all i.e. TEAM play. I also think the incremental voting is a joke, I've seen people over the last couple of days wait 6 or 7 maps just to vote in a tankmeupcrap and that is NOT majority voting.

So rather than annoy people by carrying on moaning about something I know will not change and possibly get even worse, I've decided to call it a day.

I'd like to say thanks to all of the genuinely talented players out there, even greater thanks to the top players that have helped me get to a half decent level (Ron, Labor, Pega, Cat, Gollum, P, Voice). I've enjoyed myself immensely and had some great fights and enjoyed getting my arse kicked all over the shop!

I may pop back from time to time, more likely I'll only play DM when I do but you never know.

Anyway, enough rambling, thanks guys - it's been a blast!

I'm off to play with some real guns now and get paid for it!

I´ve not been active during the last couple of weeks as well but I think that the things you are complaining about wont change at all (as you already said)

I can arrange myself with the ppl, maps & votings mostly, but i can understand you if you cannot.. I´m doing facepalms from time to time myself if I see campers & noobs in overpowered tanks on questionable maps. But I also think that it´s the way the ppl are and you wont change that

I´m sorry to hear that :( enjoyed playing with you..
Wish you good luck in the future!

Ah shit, really sorry to hear this Tim. I hope you change your mind or at least pop back in a couple of months to see if things have changed.

I think it's fair to say the server has been full of unsporting play for a while now. The thing is that won't change if all the old school ons players keep leaving, we can still turn it around :weneedyou: The idea behind incremental voting is to give proper ons players a chance to get a good map up every now and then without all the over powered tanks. Any other ideas I'm sure would be welcomed by the boss.

Anyway best of luck in the real world and have fun with those guns :gun: . See ya around mate.

Dammit, what Cat said, exactly!

Golly, Cat and me are always watching the playstyles, trying to educate the bad apples. We're having tough times at that. You'd wonder how many warnings, mutes and bans are carried out. Usually, they are not public btw. Sisyphus work, honestly. It's sort of destiny on crowded servers :( However, we won't give up.

As for TankMeUp-maps, we've kept only two of 'em recently as a compromise and little concession. Personally I, too, can't understand why they're sooo popular, those damn boomboom tanks. As a very first, partly crude reaction to your goodbye and since I meanwhile know countless oldschoolers of the same attitude (even at Omni), those last two TMU-maps have been removed for now. Here's hope I'm speaking for the whole staff when stating we'd rather lose 5 Mino whores than yet another oldschooler like you. So you might rethink it now, hmmm? :innocnt:

If not, sigh :( It's been a pleasure to play with you, good luck and all! You might want to check out Fair-Gamers ONS#3 instead. They don't run any non-stock vehicle.

Huh, figures something like this would go down during the one week I'm indisposed and can't pay much attention to web affairs :/. Oh well, given my tardiness here, most of what I'd in mind to say has already been mentioned, so I'm just gonna have to echo pretty much everyone else in saying what a damn shame it is to be losing a player like you, senior Timbo. It's been great fun fighting with ya - and even more so against you :p - and hell knows, the server can't afford to lose mature, gracious and sportsmanlike guys like you these days; not that we ever exactly felt any more comfortable about such kind of a proposition, but with the metaphorical noose evermore tightening around this game's neck, every added departure of a valued regular registers that much more dearly.

Frustrations and indignation pertaining to other players' voting or playing habits have always been around simply on account of differing tastes and levels of maturity. While I believe that the situation on CEONSS has always been considerably more tolerable, compared to many other places I've frequented during my ONS playing years, and that lately, thanks to the addition of our 2 ingame admins, we've arrived at a point where it's now easier than ever to sort out troublemakers and preserve a peaceful and civil ingame playing environment for everyone, content-related disputes in terms of voting preference are still unavoidable.
Between being well aware for a while now of the kinda influence the various playstyle-based entrenched subgroups within the server exert when it comes to roster changes and the predictable knee-jerk reactions that would follow the removal of any of their favourite maps, on one hand, and our own intention to finally reform a sizable part of the roster towards more balanced, pluralistic and maybe even more nuanced content based on a concrete and clearly laid out ideology on the other, content management has been a pretty wild beast to tame, no doubt. Hasn't helped things that few ppl ever bother to actually come here and add their voice and thoughts to the process to help guide our hand either, even if their input were to consist mostly of known gripes and protests - no legitimate concern that enters the discussion would ever be considered "moaning" by us, I assure you. Because of all that, so far we'd been mostly trying to make do using the existing tools at our disposal we felt could help and trying out voting method alternatives was just another possible way of somewhat bridging the gulf between the hitscanners' NV affinity and the tank campers' obsession with the (stupid strong) custom vec maps. It's been tried before in the past and, if you'll recall, it didn't stick which is why voting got changed back to the default behaviour. Experience, then, suggests that if accumulative voting (and the spec sniping practices it tends to bring about, as I've discussed before) turns out not to jive with what the community needs, it'll eventually get overturned again, so that's one server feature I definitely wouldn't describe as "something I know will not change". I'd say, give it just a bit of time.
Still, after a long time of playing it mostly by gut/ear and with a mind of mostly trying to keep everyone equally happy, however, lately we've managed to lay some foundations in the policy department and we're now finally making headway towards putting together something comprehensive that later this year should enable us to proceed with the roster reform while staying consistent with our principles and mission statement. When those changes start rolling in, I believe it's gonna prove to be a very interesting time for most veteran ONS players still approaching the gametype with a mindset of having some ggs per playing session instead of just experiencing a sequence of one-track-minded playground maps. So if your urge to take some time off is still driving your decisions, my advice to you would be to take a walk around, get as much downtime you need, but just don't wander too far away for now ;). Also, DM is your standby choice here, man? Damn. I mean, it'd be bad enough for ONS to be down one cool person, but losing 'em to the DM twitch monkey army and their one-trick gig would be too low a blow to take in :/. If you think ONS can get old quick when ppl act like jerks around spawnpoints, you're in for a treat once you pick a random, populated Rankin server and dive in.

Anyway, sorry for going off on a rant there again. While I hope you'd reconsider and give things another try (maybe shift your gaming schedule around by an hour to get a better crowd even), I wanna wish you good luck with whatever you decide to do - for fun or profit - and just end with saying, I hope to still see you around CEONSS, ingame or just here :).

Careful playing with your real guns, btw; AFK respawns times are still pretty dreadful from what I hear :p.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the kind words - jeez Pega can you rant or what!!! ;-)

I may pop back in when I get chance (when I'm near a decent connection) but off doing some training with Bog's lot at the minute to get my fitness levels up to top notch - got a half marathon in a few days so pounding the streets.

Anyway, I will pop in and say hi to you bunch of weirdos soon.
