Vehicle pushing

Post by Xac »

When I see someone get into a slow tank or Levi and they are by the core (often when a game starts) if there's a Hellbender or Scorpion around I try to push them where they want to go to help speed them up. Otherwise they are just wasting too much time getting to the action and not doing anything useful. No-one seems to complain...maybe they do not even notice. But I don't see anyone else doing this. Do people like being pushed or not? Or do they just not want to co-operate and work as a team?

No pun intended, I suppose :D

Ok sorry, that was cheap XD

About vehicle pushing: I noticed that too. Sometimes I see someone on a Scorpion or Hellbender pushing a tank. And that's good.
I tried to do it myself (like yesterday on Magicisle), but the issue here is that... It's not that easy to push other vehicles. Every time I try to do it, the other vehicle turns on itself - ultimately leading to a loss of time.
Also, if there is a turn on the road, it becomes more difficult for the pushed vehicle to manouver.

I'm not saying that pushing vehicles is a manouver that should be avoided. I'm saying that it's not the easiest thing, and that it needs practice (or at least, I need practice on it).

A more "safe" way to give at the slow vehicles some acceleration, could be to shoot them fom behind with the shock or the laser turrets. But shooting an ally is usually done to communicate something, so I don't know...

Pushing is less efficient than you might think. It may accelerate the pushed vehicle up to their own maximum speed faster than the vehicle would do on its own, but the pushing vehicle also won't go any faster. That means the slow vehicle won't arrive that much sooner, while the pushing vehicle arrives a lot later and won't be able to contribute to the fight either. Pushing also makes it a bit harder to steer the pushed vehicle. (In fact, if you ever push a hovertank, be sure its driver doesn't want to fire at anything.)

I do this. It helps on maps such as Actic Stronghold to get the tank into play asap.
