Kingdom spawnkilling

Post by MrPenguin »

Just wonder if its possible to modify this map to make it less likely to end up with spawnkilling - whether deliberate or more usually accidental (e.g. using mino or dragon vs the core)

The problem is that the player and vehicle spawns are next to the core, and the map is set up for long-distance attacks in the endgame with lots of "splash" vehicles like Mino, Dragon and Arbalest.

One option would be to modify the map to move the core somewhere else - maybe in a cave next to the castle rather than actually in it.

Thoughts?

Just one question regarding the option you suggest.

Would the main objective just be to take the core away from the main base (and therefore avoid spawn killing)? Or would it also be aimed at forcing enemies to attack the core on foot (as you suggested a cave)?

The first really - just avoid spawnkilling. The only reason I suggested a cave was that sticking it out on the grass in front of the castle seemed a bit silly...?

Probably ;) Besides, placing it in front of the castle would mean that splash damage could hit defending players when they are going to reconquer some nodes.

There are many possibles solutions like placing some walls around playerstarts (the spawn points) to prevent slash damage. But that would suppose that the enemies shoot precisely the powercore, which cannot be certain.

The core could be placed on top of a tower, but that would make it more difficult for players on foot to attack it.

The cave is also a good idea. However, depending on how deep the cave is and where the core is placed, it could allow some easy defense camping. For instance, you could bring a small vehicle, like a Badger, inside and camp there for defense.
Openings in the ceiling of the cave (like it is done in Aheban) can be used to prevent too much camping if it happens.

As you can see there are several solutions, each having avantages and disavantages. That's why I asked what was the primary objective of your request. Knowing that, priorities can be established.

Just for your information, the core can theoretically more or less be placed anywhere (quite away from the castle, very high etc...).
The only constraint is that the game attributes playerstarts (spawn points) and vehiclefactories (vehicle spawn points) based on the radius of power cores and power nodes.

So let's say, taking an extreme example, that you place the powercore to the opposite side of the map, the castle spawn points and vehicles would become attached to the closest nodes.
