Switching back to music again *eyes Gollum
*...
So I've never been into anime: huge eyes, doll-like faces, odd facial emotion shorthand tropes, whiny voices delivering (probably) hyperbolic drama... I just can't get past all that and dig into the stories, ya know? Only exception has ever been Area 88 whose raw, realistic but pretty graphic tale of a fictional Middle Eastern merc pilots' legion embroiled in bloody war gripped me when I first came across it as a tyke in the late 80s (lemme tell ya, it's a pretty stark change-up to be flippin' over from TMNT or Inspector Gadget only to come across pilots coughing up blood inside bullet punched canopies or riddling enemy parachutees with 30mm bullets for the lulz, all dubbed but not censored) and infused me during its only 3 eps with an undying love for flying and fighter jets. The SNES tie-in game released a few years later as U.N. Squadron was only gravy to the experience (among the best SS shmups, IGN's 37th all-time best SNES game), but I made sure to grab it anyway
.
Later as a uni student, when I heard they were making a 12-ep remake of the series slated for 2004, I was naturally all over it from the moment Ep 1 leaked online, but the revelation the show had in store for me this time weren't the even more accurate CGI fighter models they used, but finding out how great dogfight action goes with trance music! Why weren't we told about this earlier? Why the hell did Tony Scott have to grate our eardrums with stupid chart-topping pop, anthemic and soft rock tunes in Top Gun when awesome, synthy trance was just arou- oh, right, that wouldn't be a thing for another 10+ years. Yeah, sorry, my bad there >_>. At any rate, once I got my grubby mitts on the soundtrack itself, this winning combination would go on to accompany my ONS aerial map sorties (think MagicIsle) for almost 2 years as the go-to custom playlist I'd queue up the moment the map was done loading. I may be over that phase these days and seldom give the OST a listen anymore, but its power and potency is as enduring today as it was the first time I laid, umm, ears on it all those years ago.
"So what's your damn point here, Peg," I hear you mumbling through your yawning tears, "this is a fokn music videos thread!" Well, other than letting you in on this rare TV gem's existence, this, right below, is my damn point. Enjoy
.
A few more for the persuaded:

Never been a big fan of the gene and i'm still not, sorry Peg. The only good cartoons are the old Tom and Jerry.
