Map testing

Post by EmanReleipS »

Some players have volunteered to test new maps for use on CEONSS. I have uploaded a bunch of maps from the Unreal Archive to a testing server and I will post the details here in case some more of you would like to take a look. It is password-protected so that peeps won't wander onto the server and be confused by the possibly broken maps.

Server: CEONSS-MS
IP: 194.26.183.119:7777
Password: test

The server includes the maps starting in letters A-L from the Archive, except for maps that we are hosting or have hosted before, and in case of multiple versions I usually tried to upload the map that sounded like the newest version. I also left our edit of Gunshop on it as the default map (it just makes things easier for me to keep it).

Please be aware that I tried to upload all dependencies beforehand, but I couldn't find all the necessary files for some maps. I'm fairly certain that the RMD maps (ONS-Avalanche-RMD, ONS-DowntownX2-RMD, ONS-Floodgate-RMD-2) are not going to work, but I haven't tested any of the maps yet.

Please feel free to post your map feedback here. If you find a map that seems promising to you, it would be helpful if you could include some details about the map, such as:

Map size
Is it a small, medium or large map(this would be the ideal player number)?

Geometry
Does it have symmetric or asymmetric design, usage of Z-axis?

Nodes & link setup
Does it have cutoff possibilities (good), are there choke nodes (bad), is it easy to understand, is it easy to find nodes, etc.?

Desirable playstyle plurality
Does it have a combination of foot dueling, tanks, sniping, flyers, superweapons, etc.? Does it favor one playstyle?

Undesirable playstyle encouragement
Does the map promote camping, excessive sniping, base laming, etc.?

Weapon & vehicle choice & balance
How well are the weapon lockers equipped, what is the vehicle availability at base, distribution of powerful vehicles, vehicle balance, etc.?

Aesthetics
Your thoughts about the overall look, neutral colors (good) or favoring one team (bad), unique design points

Necessary editing
What kind of work you think should be done to improve the map, if any.

Promising map candidates may be hosted on CEONSS in the future, to see how the map will perform with actual players.

Thanks to all who volunteered to do some testing! :yippiiieh: I'll be on vacation for a couple of days, but hope I can also put some work in once we are back.

Cool, can you give us some more details about Downtown? In particular, what appeals to you about the map?
Also, are you aware if there are several edits out there and if yes, which one do you think is the best one?

Its a UT3 port from my understanding much like Rail. it has a modern look and at the time newer adds like the jump boots and the ion cannon.

its on the Death Warrant ONS server we can play it anytime ...I "know a guy" over there that can force maps and such...plus the in game voice chat works!

Thanks for doing this Em. Would love to see some new maps introduced to the server.

I will be on this server over the next couple days to test these maps. If anybody wants to join me then just join if I'm already playing, if not PM me and we can organise a time to play.

EDIT: Wow theres a alot of map to go through, was not expecting that  I think quite a few are write offs straight away that could be removed like the ones that just have one node.
