Why?
Why?
Why is that, that when i join the server, it feels like i have joined a random demo server and not Ceonss? Am i really the only one who cares about fairplay? You will never see me joining the winning team, spidermineing the enemy base, and the least to see me spawnkill. like shooting the base with a mino, not to kill the core, but just to be a douchebag. It can piss me off really badly, and i admit that in those cases, i talk things that i shouldn't, and i wouldn't when i'm calm. like today in omaha, Thundercat howering over the base in a dragon and bombing when we had nowhere to go. Asked him why? he said: c'mon man, it was only at the end. duh, when it did the most damage. And let's not even talk about E-bolas gameplay, with his magical eye to see through the fog, and the also magical goliath that never misses, not even from across the map.(we all know, that goliath is missing atleast one shot out of 3 when shooting far). This isn't a new game, it's 10 years old, why are still so many n00bs in the game? Maybe the problem is with me, but i don't imagine fairplay like this. I don't know, but this sucks

Re: Why?
You're right that there is an issue with sportsmanship on the server, and has been for some time. However if you think about all the regulars that play here, the majority play fair, it's just a few bad apples.
It shouldn't need someone to warn people about playing in such as style as it's basic common courtesy not to do such things, and equaly importaint it's part of the the server rules. But if any of us are in game while this is going on you can always give us a hint by saying something along the lines of "such-and-such please stop spawn mining" or what have you, and we'll be sure to have a word.

Re: Why?
Nice idea Xac, I know that some other servers do that. I think the problem with that is that people tend to just click "ok" and ignore the message.
If we all set a good example, especially with the newbies, over time we can turn it around

Re: Why?
Since we already are on the topic of sportmanship...
Can someone please explain me where to "draw the line" between "good" and "bad" empty tank killing? (if there is any at all)
I mean: I know that going to the core or the shielded nodes just to damage empty vehicles is L A M E . I'm ok with that.
But, from actual play, I saw that, on some maps, it's just basic tactic to shoot some vehicles as soon as they spawn, probably because the opponent are going to immediately jump on them. (I'm talking mainly of the tanks in the center of Tripleslap and Tyrant).
I'm ok with any kind of answer; I just want to understand.

Re: Why?
I'd say the line is drawn in terms of distance from the action. If a node is attackable or close enough to serve as good place for reinforcements, then those vehicles are actually a threat. But if the node (or core) is too far away, a tank from there would take a considerable amount of time to join the action. In that case, destroying those empty vehicles probably is a waste of time, because the time spent on destroying them could be better spent closer to where things actually happen.
Re: Why?
I'm pretty sure most people would regard enemy resources one node away from the battlefront as fair game, if they happened to've come close enough to have the opportunity to damage them, but anything sitting locked and peaceful farther away is probably stretching things beyond any sensible measure of sportsmanship. And speaking of sportsmanship, a mentality mentioned frequently here both behind the curtains as well as publicly, it is indeed the principal stance that CEONSS regards UT should be understood and experienced from. After all, the game is nearing its 10th release anniversary and there's only a tiny fraction of its once massive player base left to try and have some matches with. More than the re-edited maps, the custom vecs or the few remaining servers around the world, people had best realize that your fellow players are for all intents and purposes UT2004 now. Log in whenever you do to play a few maps and relax, and you'll come across the same folks, diehards as yourself still plodding along, still being the lifeblood that keeps this game's heart pumping. If an increasing number of ppl keep on playing with blatant disregard for any kinda propriety or ethics code toward others (either through spiteful ingame sabotage, immature spec-switching when they lose a map vote or whatever) and that eventually prompts a few more members to give up and walk away, does anyone really believe those few jackasses wouldn't be impacted themselves?
Long story short, there's a reason why many oldschoolers consider (and probly always have) UT more in terms of sportsmanship than just a game where your objective is to always pursue a higher score, get the most wins and get to "the next level". It's because there is no next level. The whole point of the game isn't to pad your stats so you'll be at the top of some imaginary hierarchy, but merely self-improvement and having a good time achieving that. The only way those things can happen is when ppl strive to turn a match into a gg, not just a stacked team stomp or a trolling exercise. Balancing attitude, mutual respect, skill improvement through sparring with equal or better foes and self-correcting/policing as a group is how communities like this can prolong their survival. Deviate from that for short-term lulz and you're only sawing off the branch you too are sitting on.
