Emma, since Tarja Turunen left the group Nightwish, for me are not the same. Annette Olson, is good, but not like Tarja...
With Tarja Nightwish was magic! Anette made Nightwish just an other pretty good band. nothing more...

On the link below u can see what I mean...Tarja vs Annete...

That German songs sound nice... :yoman:

Mooo, I know. Nightwish with Annette wasn't the same. but they have a new singer now, a Dutch woman called Floor Jansen. And she is awesome!

I saw her live with Nightwish in Japan and they rocked. She can actually sing the old songs (Tarja's songs) really well and she makes the new songs (Annette's songs) sound amazing! And she can headbang like a pro! :D I can't wait for them to release an album together!

Time to link to videos elsewhere for this thread?
Cat1981England wrote:Yeah it seems google is doing everything it can to balls youtube up.

Will start looking for other video site plugins.
Pegasus wrote:[...]umm, well, there's always Vimeo, I suppose. A few other decently sized players out there too, but I can't remember 'em right now (not blip though). I suppose we can just add 'em one at a time based on how their popularity grows. Edit: Shit, I completely forgot about non-video-based music hosting services with their own embeddable players, like Bandcamp and SoundCloud. A Bandcamp player embedding phpBB plugin we'd be able to use for this thread would definitely be a worthwhile addition IMO.
Two new plugins both of which work in the same way as the old youtube button.

[soundcloud] Based on Peg's recommendation, and [video] which supports those sites plus a few others,

• youtube.com - It doesn't matter if you use http or https now, plus playlists are also supported.
• vimeo.com
• facebook.com
• dailymotion.com
• metacafe.com
• video.google.com

I've started editing old post to change them over to the new plugin. Once done the [youtube] plugin will be removed so could you please use the new [video] button from now on. Thank you.

Damn, that's a pretty robust vid embedding upgrade there, Boss. Sad to see no mention of Bandcamp among the listed sites, but still, kudos for broadening the range of video sources that much - lol @ Google's own, old video service being among those too :p.

Btw, why bother changing the YT BBcode embed tags across all old posts to the newer format when that script still works? I mean, unless you're planning to repurpose the [youtube] tag (edit: oh, wait, "removed"? sounds a tad excessive :/ is there some kinda vulnerability involved or something :s?), it'll probably take hours to do 'em one by one manually (unless you went to the site phpmyadmin's mysql settings and did the substitution with a tailored command) and nobody will see any difference; they might as well stay as they are, no?

Ah, shit, umm, music, huh? Well, here's something relevant ...ish:

Still looking into that. Everything I've seen so far requires the poster to hunt though looking for certain codes, just need to find something which supports a simple copy and paste url.

Well I'm thinking about anyone who doesn't see the previous post. Naturally they're going to use the [youtube] button so still have the old https problem. As the new button does the same thing and more, it may as well go.

I know! thank god for mods :readit:

There's also a lot of links to other sites such as vimeo and playlists. If a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing well.

Moving ever closer to videogame music territory, remember awhile back when Dan Bull took a break from his usual rapping routine to rhyme about Civ4? Well, here's someone now for whom creating original songs about videogames - writing the lyrics, composing and performing the music, the whole thing - is the bigger part his routine.
Although he often rocks out as part of a group, Irishman Gavin Dunne is best known to the internet as solo act Miracle of Sound where, either through his own discovery or more usually through the crowd he runs with (games & media journos, primarily from The Escapist, and other web/YT personalities), new games, TV shows or films will often catch his attention and inspire him to write a song about 'em in a number of genres: rock, pop, metal or even more unusual flairs.
Although they're just his personal work, the songs' quality, and particularly the lyrics that often capture the medium's spirit or mood remarkably well, can be so effective at times as to give the companies' own promotional material a run for its money; Ubisoft, for one, even invited him to tour their HQ once after he made a pretty successful Assassins' Creed song. Funnily enough, sometimes the final product [game, movie] will turn out to be more or less a flop after release (say, your Titanfalls, Watch Dogs, etc.), and Gavin's song about 'em will still stand as pretty much the only good thing enough about 'em :). Most of his VG-related songs tend to get bundled and released in yearly and sequentially named albums (Level 1, 2, etc.) on Bandcamp, and, occasionally, he'll also put out a parody song or his own original scores, which are pretty fun too. Anyway, I think you got the idea by now, so here's some choice picks below to see what I mean. Enjoy :).

"New Black Gold" for DE:HR - great game, intriguing themes & visuals, not so good bosses :/

Beneath the Black Flag - sea shanty time!

The Crush - small break from games for some hardcore kaiju pummeling (MoS has also covered Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad from a character PoV)

Hard Cash - 3 songs to cover GTA5's 3 protagonists, with the last one, Michael's, IMO being the best (for maximum value out of its references, you may wanna listen the other two first ;))

Wheatley's Song! - An ode to the Artificial Imbecile

Shooter Guy - First Person Troper
