WIP - Work In Progress

Post by Crusha K. Rool »

Opening this general purpose thread for our mappers and content creators to tease us a bit with whatever they are currently doing. :)

I'll start up with the first tease, even though it's not 100% done by me.

Some of you may have heard about Wormbo's "Poltergeist" hovertank already because it's more than a year old now.
As mentioned in that thread, I was originally providing an entirely new model for the tank that was based on the Nekomata hovertank from Battlefield 2142. However, things got busy then and I never got around to skin and rig the mesh and so it was dusting on my HDD.

But recently I called for assistance and actually got a prompt response from Hellfire, who is now going to finish the tank with a paint job, bones and collision and Wormbo will likely implement it in his code soon afterwards.

EDIT: Here is the newest shot with team colours.

Balancing-wise, you can probably expect this:
  • Normal tank turret version will work similar to the normal tank.
The pros compared to normal tank is that the hovertank can obviously dodge projectiles better and get easier across terrain and water.
The drawback is that his turret can only aim up and down and requires the entire tank to rotate in order to change it's sidewards aim. And, being a hovering vehicle, the tank attracts Raptor missiles like a Manta.
  • Laser version of the tank fires a constant laser beam (those who know the Darkwalker from UT3 will get the idea) as primary fire and a shock wave that is directed to the front and has the form of a Paladin-shield as secondary.

lol i didnt even recognize b4

its a weed-tank

jokes aside
can it jump like a manta??
i imagine that aiming just frontwards might be difficult but that depends on the overall handling of the vehicle
I rly like the textures.. looks cool

I really liked the aiming of it in BF2142, but Wormbo said that it didn't feel all that good in his first version and so he gave it a bit more freedom to the sides. Maybe it also depends on whether or not you are using it in first person mode.

A hover vehicle with fixed-aim turret is tough to control. The Manta's rotation is quick enough for that to work, but a tank will usually take too long to turn. It works for the Poltergeist because its primary fire is designed for that movement style and its secondary fire only needs to be pointed in the general direction of any opponents.

Mandatory teaser part:

This one can jump, and you don't want to stand next to it when it does:

You also don't want to be anywhere nearby when it blows up:

Oh, good, you're both here now showing those vecs; that removes one the hurdles for discussing 'em ("which community are they tailoring these to?") without the need to violate one's established policies.
Eyes in the skies.

Wormbo has never balanced stuff for Omni-relations. He's a vanilla guy. ;)
Same here, btw.

great! Rail has always been laggy somehow, even the beta15 on decent gaming rigs (Core-i7 & such). You might want to check into this issue as well?
