Gunshop rebuilt

Post by Cat1981England »

Okey dokie. This is a complete rebuild of Gunshop in an effort to get rid of the lag, particularly late in the game. Gameplay is 90% the same but there have been some small alterations made.

- Nodes 1 and 2 have been moved closer to the centre of the room so the link setup is clearer on the radar map.
- The nuke pickup at cores have been replaced with wildcard (u-damage, super shield, super keg or nuke).
- The two nuke pickups in the roof of the map have a 1 damage per second volume to stop campers.
- There's two new cabinets either side of the central node to help provide cover.
- The two Target painters which are normal down the side of the map have been moved on top of the new cabinets.
- There are now jumpads from the side boxes which allow foot players to get on top of the new cabinets.
- The tall cabinet by the centre node has been removed and replaced by a shelf.

Everything else is just a paint job, the most notable of which is the wall texture. It does take 5 minutes to get use to, but it's much better then the old one.

--------------

For those of you that tested it on match night, I've also re-done the lighting, add bot pathing and changed the direction of the Manta's at cores.

--------------

It's been requested that we put beta maps on the testing server for players to use. I'm very reluctant to do so for a few reason, the biggest of which is that it's on the same box as our main server and may hurt performance, but it can go on the match server. I've limited the number of players to 2 simply to stop it becoming a temp private server for a handful of people who may stumble across this post.

Great work :) I see only some minor issues, which are in fact more of arraignments.
- please add some metal beams between the glass parts of new drawers (the ones with the target painter on top) - it is not obvious that there is glass between the bottom shelf and the floor;
- the journal on top of the base has no image on the bottom side and looks like a plain black rectangle;
- screen images :);
- if the shop is closed, the "open" part with some invitations and work hours should be inside, not "closed" one :)
- a security door like this or this with a lock would be nice;
- it would also be nice to have teleports between the gaps in the weapons showcase you added, this places look so empty... Or deemers. More deeemers. Always not enough deemers. Only 3(+2) deemers! Giving it a secon thought, the deemers would be even better than the teleports. Actually, you could replace all the teleports with deemers. And jumppads. And weapon lockers. And vehicles. And players. Deemers. Deeeemers... Ahem, sorry, I've got distracted a bit.

Changes,

- Changed teleporters to jumpads at centre node.
- Moved Ion-Tank and Bender under the centre node pallet.
- Added lights under pallet to reflect the holes in it and the light above.
- Add damage volumes just under the lights.
- Increased Avril, Link and Shock ammo at all weapon lockers. All now have lighting guns or classic and cores are now fully stocked.
- Add metal beams to bottom of new cabinets.
- Added image to screens (oops).
- Added jumpads between the gun cabinets.

-----

- I haven't added a security door because it would make the access to the corner nodes smaller and, well, I can't make anything that looks any good.
- The shop is actually open. It says on the poster "Open to midnight", it's 11pm :p
- The plain black magazine underside is intentional because of how the lighting works. It treats the glass as a solid object and there isn't enough room for an extra light underneath. Also it's surprisingly difficult to find the front and back cover of a gun magazine :dunnosoz:

-----

The only thing which is annoying me is the sky beams which are not rendered through the glass. Other then that, I think this is done. I'll leave it until the weekend to give everyone a chance to have a final say if they wish.

Ah, it is open... All right then :)
I don't quite get it about the journal. Isn't it possible to set it as "unlit" or "special lit"? Or make an ambient light texture for it, like the lamps? Or is it all just not worth the effort?

You can do, but it looks too bright, even with those strip lights under it. Plus I can't find a decent front and back cover of a gun magazine.

I guess if you make the texture dark by itself, it will look OK with unlit flag on. I can do it once I have the map source file.

Looks good! :thumbup:

....I think the texture you used for the wall is a floor texture, though. xD (Seems 90% of the feedback I give is about the interior design.... :lol: )

ONS-Gunshop-C now on the server.

We played it with 29 players + 2 in spec, no p/l which is great. Three people said they had lag, but that may have been the server which has had that problem all day so can't really tell just yet.

The one thing which is still ready bugging me is stuff such as weapon fire, skybeams etc not showing through the glass. Anyone have any ideas?

I did as you said, dark texture and unlit. Thank you :thumbup:
