Anyone else having this problem? Back in the days the selection in the 3D viewport would be just as fast as the one in the 2D viewport, but nowadays the editor basically hangs for 4-6 seconds every time you try to select something in the 3D viewport (and it's not directly in front of the camera).
I remember having this issue in the past and I think a graphics driver update introduced it for me back then (when I was still on nVidia). I don't really remember if it got solved by another driver update or not. Or maybe it was a DirectX version issue...?
Anyway, just makes mapping a little bit of a pain. And I guess I wanted to vent some frustration. :/

I have the same problem on some maps. I've found that it helps to turn off volumes or static meshes depending on which one you are trying to grab.

May be it has nothing to do with it, never had this issue on few pcs excepting if you zoom too wide on one Ued window....?
Edit: This also depends on the direction in which you select and what is behind the selected object.

Re: Very slow selection in 3D viewport of UnrealEd
I've been getting freezes all the time since updating to Win10. Thanks to Wormbo I've reduced them from 30 seconds to 5ish. Guess I will be selecting stuff solely in the 2D viewports from now on.

Re: Very slow selection in 3D viewport of UnrealEd
Aside from not even having an option in the AMD Crimson driver to forcefully disable AA, it wasn't enabled in the first place (and enabling it didn't actually impact the selection time for me). It seems to depend on how many objects are in the scope of the viewport to be deprojected onto the screen. So whenever I need to select something in the 3D viewport, I better make sure to look at the ground and have as few other things as possible in the background.

Very slow selection in 3D viewport of UnrealEd
WIN 10; RTX2070; i5 9600K
So following some of theese there:
https://www.epicgames.com/unrealtournam ... s-10/page5
I have no real solution for that.
What is working is to start win 10 in save mode (5). There the selecting is instand. Just the view while moving is a bit mushy as the drivers are disabled there.
I also tried the "use the intern-GPU" .. but with the newest drivers, it wasn't working better as with the PCIE-GPU.
Also using an 4:3 aspect ratio was helping, but just a split seccond less .. so not good.
I'm not so happy with the save mode solution, but I'm much more unhappy to click and wait, or zoom in click and wait shorter, or to cut a map in pieces and put it together later.
So when someone has a better solution, please speak out.
------------------
So all around the driver .. using save mode will disable the gpu driver as well as "disable" the gpu, but I would rather use the save mode, it's saver. Thing with both is that you can't realy playtest the map because you have no real rendering power. It can also happen the it crashes when you have to many rendering stuff on one place. =D

Very slow selection in 3D viewport of UnrealEd
GTX 970: works on Windows 7, lags on Windows 10
RTX 2060: lags on 7/10
6800XT: doesn't even make the attempt to select on either 7/10
UHD 770: no 7 driver, lags on 10
Windows 10 BasicDisplay (software rendering): unbearable ~20-30 FPS, extreme hassle to disable GPU drivers
No clue about GTX 1000 series, no clue about Linux functionality these days. But I suppose if you have an older GPU and are willing to install Windows 7, the option is there. So far Windows 7 works well on Z790 with added xHCI/NVMe drivers. No I226-V driver so I use an AIC NIC. Ebay is littered with cheap old server NICs. At this point a dedicated UnrealEd PC is pretty much required for anything more than light editing; multiply 1-5 seconds per every selection, and you've wasted hours just for a single map.

Very slow selection in 3D viewport of UnrealEd
I've improved my editor's performance to tolerable selection delays by disabling the realtime previews for all viewports except the dynamic light one. Whenever possible I use the other viewports (not the dynamic lights one) to select stuff. When selecting from the dynamic light viewport, I angle the camera so that few other stuff is visible.

Anonymous was so nice to point to this fix.
"Metallicafan212" fixed it and packed into a dll. Extrackt the .dll into your UT2004\System folder, may back up the original file before.

He explains why the bug is there from this post onward, if you are interested: https://discord.com/channels/1439866339 ... 2412341318
OLD Unreal (UT99 and Unreal): https://discord.gg/thURucxzs6
It's working again like it should, fast and no lag.
He made that for UT99 and someone asked him if he could do it for UT2k4, he just made it because it "sounded fun". Here on GH: https://github.com/metallicafan212/UE2SelectionFixes
